Léon Bristow is an internationally recognised Art Director, Designer, and Founder of BEINGS – an online platform championing diverse talent in the creative industries. Despite being a proud introvert, he’ll seldom ever shy away from playful cheek. This, paired with curiosity, courage, and a dogged itch on his left thigh to always question the status quo.
Born in France and raised in New Zealand with Māori, Samoan, and Dutch heritage. Léon studied Cultural Anthropology and Theatre in both New Zealand and New York, before contributing to the landmark Toi Tū Toi Ora exhibition at the Auckland Art Gallery – the largest showcase of Māori artwork in history. His commercial career began a year later in Barcelona before returning to New Zealand to challenge outdated systems.
From advertising, to art and design, Léon’s visual style is incisive, editorial, provocative, cultural, and sometimes clever. He considers his family’s comedic wit and passion for politics a significant influence for his simple yet audacious body of work. Pushing cultural expectations to evoke new emotions, perspectives, and behaviours.
Early in his career he was named a One to Watch by D&AD and a High Potential by ADC*E. Since, he has ranked the 4th Best Art Director in the world at Cannes Lions, been named on the Campaign Asia 40 Under 40 list, and become the first New Zealander in a decade accepted into the Cannes Lions Creative Academy.
He is currently a finalist for Young New Zealander of the Year.

“If you want a creative that will just get the job done and not push any boundaries then Léon isn't for you. He has the great ability to find true insights and turn them into eyeball grabbing ideas that are beautifully crafted.”

“Léon has a natural instinct for effortlessly marrying provocation with incisive, clever, culturally grounded, witty, and chic editorial design. A smile in the mind. As his coach, it’s been a pleasure to see him grow and refine his concepts. A perfect poach.”
— Ritesh Gupta, Founder & CEO of Useful School
“Léon has the amazing ability to create work that’s sharp enough to cut through, but generous enough to bring people with him.”
